Flights in Kenya
Nairobi to Amboseli
Elephants and Kilimanjaro views without the road.
The route in brief
Amboseli is only a few hours from Nairobi by road, but the last stretch is dusty and slow. A morning flight from Wilson Airport lands you at the Amboseli airstrip in time for the day.
Safarilink and AirKenya both fly it, with similar fares.
How to do it
Ask your lodge or camp whether it meets guests at the airstrip and which airline suits its schedule.
Book directly with the airline or through your safari operator.
Check in at your airline's building at Wilson Airport, with soft bags and about 15 kg per person.
Carry your original passport.
Who flies it
| Airline | Airports | Fare guide | Checked bag | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SafarilinkSafari airline | WILASV Wilson Airport to Amboseli Airstrip | USD 150–190 | about 15 kg | 15 kg per person in soft bags. Guides disagree on whether hand luggage counts inside the 15 kg, so ask your airline. |
| AirKenya ExpressSafari airline | WILASV Wilson Airport to Amboseli Airstrip | USD 145–185 | about 15 kg | 15 kg per person in soft bags. Pooling weight across a group is possible only if arranged in advance with the airline or your operator. |
Tips worth knowing
- Fly in a soft-sided duffel bag. Hard suitcases are usually refused on the small safari aircraft.
- Keep to about 15 kg per person for all your luggage; excess is charged by the kilogram and may travel on a later flight if the aircraft is full.
- Most safari flights leave in the morning, so plan to be at Wilson Airport early and to check in at your airline's own building.
- Carry your original passport. Guides report that photos or screenshots of identity documents have been refused at the gate.
- Expect delays of 20 to 40 minutes in the busy months (July to September); do not tie a tight onward connection to a bush flight.

Where this comes from
Times, fares and schedules are gathered by hand from airline websites and published travel guides, then entered here as ranges. They are indicative, not live, and the airline’s own page always wins.
