Flights in Kenya
Nairobi to Mombasa
The fastest way to the coast. About 1 h in the air.
The route in brief
Nairobi to Mombasa is Kenya's busiest domestic route and the easiest way to start a beach holiday. Flights leave Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and land at Moi International Airport in Mombasa.
Flying is the shortest option, but the Madaraka Express train is a real alternative if you would rather see the country and avoid airport queues.
How to do it
Compare Kenya Airways and Jambojet for your dates and compare the full ticket price with bags included, not just the headline fare.
Book on the airline's own website, or ask a travel agent or your safari operator to arrange it.
Check which Nairobi airport is on your ticket. Scheduled jets use JKIA, not Wilson Airport.
Arrive about 90 minutes before departure, or follow your airline's own check-in deadline.
On arrival, Moi International is on the island's mainland side; arrange a taxi or hotel transfer to your hotel in Mombasa, Nyali, Bamburi or beyond.

Tips worth knowing
- Fares move with the date, the booking window and bag options, so treat the range as an estimate.
- If you are continuing to Diani, compare flying straight to Ukunda (see Nairobi to Diani Beach) with flying to Mombasa and driving.
- Keep your ticket and your ID with you rather than in checked luggage.

Where this comes from
Times, fares and schedules are gathered by hand from airline websites and published travel guides, then entered here as ranges. They are indicative, not live, and the airline’s own page always wins.
